I heard this on Monday’s (August 4, 2008 ) episode of Crosstalk.  It was written by Vic Eliason’s father in 1960.  Not much has changed at all in 48 years.

The Modernist Preacher Entering Hell

He was an ordained minister, but modern in his views.
He preached his twisted doctrines to people in the pews.
He would not hurt their feelings, whate’er the cost would be,
But for their smiles and friendship and compliments sought he.
His church was filled with wicked souls that should be saved from sin,
But never once he showed the way or tried a soul to win.
He preached about the lovely birds that twitter in the trees,
The babl’ing of the running brooks, the murm’ring of the seas.

He quoted fancy poetry that tickled list’ning ears
When sorrow came to some, he tried to laugh away their tears.
His smooth and slipp’ry sermons made the people slide to hell.
The harm he did by preaching goes beyond what we can tell.
He took our Holy Bible, and preached it full of holes,
The Virgin Birth, said he can’t be believed by honest souls,
The miracles of Jesus and the resurrection tale
For educated ones like us, today, cannot avail.
We’re living in an age, said he, when wisdom rules and reigns,
When man’s intelligence is great and superstition wanes.

He said, we’re all God’s children who live upon this earth,
No message of salvation, no need of second birth.
His coat was bought with money that he had wrongly gained,
For through his twisted sermons his wealth he had obtained.
He was just like the Roman soldiers that watched at Jesus’ grave,
For money in abundance, to them, the people gave;
It all was theirs by telling what was a sinful lie -
A resurrected Savior, they, too, were to deny.

The day at last had come for the minister to die,
When to his congregation, he had to say good-bye.
His form lay cold and lifeless, his ministry was past,
His tongue with all its poison was hushed and stilled at last.
His funeral was grand; he was lauded to the skies-
They preached him into heaven where there are no good-byes.
Upon the lonely hill, underneath the shady trees,
His form was laid to rest in the whisp’ring of the breeze.

A tombstone was erected with words: “He is at rest,
He’s gone to heaven’s glories to live among the blest.”
His body now is lifeless, but Ah! His soul lives on,
He failed to enter in where they thought that he had gone.
The letters on the tombstone or that sermon some had heard,
Could not decide his destiny, ’twas not the final word.
He still had God to deal with, the one who knows the heart;
While others entered heaven, he heard the word, “Depart.”

He pauses for a moment upon the brink of hell;
He stares into a depth where he evermore will dwell.
He hears the cries and groanings of souls he had misled,
He recognizes faces among the screaming dead.
He sees departed deacons which he had highly praised.
Their fingers pointing at him as they their voices raised:
“You stood behind the pulpit, and lived in awful sin,
We took you for a saint, but a liar you have been.”
Accusing cries! He hears them, “Ah! You have been to blame,
You led us into darkness when you were seeking fame.”

“You preached your deadly doctrine, we thought you knew the way.
We fed you and we clothed you, we even raised your pay.
You’ve robbed us of a home where no tear-drops ever flow,
Where days are always fair and the heav’nly breezes blow.
Where living streams are flowing, and saints and Angels sing,
Where every one is happy, and Hallelujahs ring.
We’re in this place of torment, from which no soul returns;
We hear the cry of lost ones, we feel the sizzling burns;
Give us a drop of water, we’re tortured in this flame;
You failed to preach salvation to us through Jesus’ Name.”

The preacher turns in horror, he tries to leave the scene,
He knows the awful future for every soul unclean,
But there he meets the devil, whom he has served so well,
He feels the demon powers as they drag him into hell.
Throughout eternal ages, his groans, too, must be heard-
He, too, must suffer torment-he failed to heed God’s Word.
He feels God’s wrath upon him, he hears the hot flames roar,
His doctrine now is different, he ridicules no more.

My Provider

Occasionally, I will have a day that I look back on and see God’s craftsmanship all over that day.  I can see how He provided in so many ways.  Today was one of those days.

Today was my bi-monthly shopping trip.  I needed to go to Sam’s Club, Aldi’s and Super Walmart.  My wonderful neighbor Judy offered to have her 11 year old daughter Katie assist me.  And I can not be more thankful.  Katie was such a huge help and such a delight to be around.  She pushed the cart the whole time.  I had no idea that would make such a significant difference.  I was not physically hurting or completely exhausted by the time I got home.  She was so sweet that at Walmart, she would open all the bags for the cashier.  She was very thoughtful and looked for opportunities to serve.  You can already see her servant’s heart at 11 years old.

After our stops at Sam’s Club and Aldi’s, we made a pit stop at Starbucks to give us a little boast before we tackled Walmart.  I got a Chai Tea Frap and Katie got a White Chocolate Mocha (hot).  As we were driving to Walmart, I commented that in the summer hot drinks can be nice because if you have to leave them in the car, they stay hot vs cold drinks.

Not two minutes after making that remark, we turned down the road to Walmart and all of the sudden, I could not steer or push the gas pedal.  I thought my power steering went out on the van.  We were able to roll into a parking spot….or two.  I turned the van off and restarted it.  It started fine but I was still not able to push the gas pedal and hear it rev up.

Oh no, what a pickle we are in now.  I called Jason to tell him what was going on.  We made plans for Judy to come watch the boy’s so that Jason could come and pick Katie and I up.  The boy’s carseats were with me in the van.  I then proceeded to call AAA to have them tow the van to the mechanic.  The wait time was about an hour.  So we sat and waited for Jason to come.  We thought the A/C was still working in the van until we began to sweat.  We then quickly opened the windows and were able to get a nice breeze for a couple moments.  It began to look like my cold drink from Starbucks may have been the better choice on this day.

Jason arrived and waited for the tow truck as Katie and I tried to finish up our shopping at Walmart.  We raced thru the store to only find out that we would be standing in line almost more time than it took to do the actual shopping.  The plan was that if the tow truck came, Jason would pick us up.  Especially since the van was at the very back of the parking lot.  The farthest spot you could possibly find.

When we left Walmart and didn’t notice Jason there to pick us up, we began our trek to the back of the parking lot with a grocery cart full of groceries.  And again, Katie was so kind to push that heavy cart the whole time.  See, I told you she is sweet and kind and wonderful and thoughtful and …..

When we reached the van, Jason informed us that AAA called at 2:30pm (30 minutes after we were told it would take an hour) and he said they called to say it would be an hour.  By the time we were done shopping, we had about 15 minutes left.  Jason also said it didn’t look like it was a power steering issue but it was actually stalling out.  At that very moment, the tow truck arrived.  Perfect timing as we just finished our shopping and arrived at the van.

We gave the driver all the instructions and loaded up Jason’s car.  We were ready to head home.  We said a prayer that God would get us home safely and not let our other old car break down.  We arrived safely home.  Jason and Judy’s kids unloaded the groceries as I filled Judy in what was going on.  I then gave them a ride home and then began to reflect on what happened today.

I strive to have eyes that see God in every situation.  Just as how He provided clothes for Kaiya the other day.  As Katie and I were in the van, she mentioned how we were very blessed that we didn’t break down on the highway.  We had just turned off the highway and were about 1/4 of a mile away.  Yet God provided a safe parking lot for our van to rest.  God has provided us with the ability to have AAA on both our vehicles.  God provided me with a wonderful husband that set my cell phone out for me to grab before I left today.  It was charging last night and if Jason didn’t set it out, we would have been without a phone today as I would have forgotten.  And to top it off, Jason did 3 loads of laundry and the dishes.  Again, God providing a wonderful, caring and thoughtful husband.

I am so blessed to have a Provider that knows all my needs and He cares for me.  I pray that I will continually give Him the glory in all situations.  What may look like a bad situation to me, I pray that I will be reminded as I was today that God is in control.  He is my Provider and Protector.

Jehovah Jireh, my Provider
His grace is sufficient for me, for me, for me
Jehovah Jireh, my Provider
His grace is sufficient for me

My God shall supply all my needs
According to His riches in glory
He will give His angels charge over me
Jehovah Jireh cares for me, for me, for me
Jehovah Jireh cares for me

What a surprise

Today as we were all eating our “elephant ears” that I made, we noticed the mail lady walking up to our house with a big package. We were not expecting anything. As soon as I saw the name, I started shaking my head because I knew exactly what it was. I could not believe the thoughtfulness and generosity of this person (though I am not surprised, because she is that kinda person).

Amy, one of my internet friends, decided to bless us with some clothes that her daughters have outgrown. She sent a whole box full of clothes for Kaiya. All of these clothes are in excellent condition and oh so cute. Many still have the tags on them.

Amy, if you see this, I can not thank you enough. What a wonderful surprise. And thank you for thinking of us. I am so excited.

I bet you all are curious aren’t ya? Well, you know me…..pictures.

The Lord sure is good to use people like Amy and her family to reveal Himself to others.

Art Class

First of all, I want to apologize to Papa and Nana Rosie that it has taken me so long to getting around to sending you a thank you note for the stamps and John Deere hats.  I don’t seem to be as on top of the game as I would like to be.  And I foresee it only getting worse unfortunately with three little ones.

So I am trying to make this extra special for you by sharing the pictures associated with your thank you notes.  The boy’s really enjoyed the stamps.  Since Ranen does not usually like to color, he really liked this.  And then colored on top of it.  I was quite surprised but I know they have been trying to get the boy’s in Ranen’s Sunday School class to color more.  Looks like it is working.

And look at all the progress Jason made this weekend on the shed.  Now that the end is in sight, Jason has really been motivated to get this done so he can have his weekends back again.  Saturday, Sunday and today, he has woken up at 8am in order to get an early start on the shed.  Trying to beat the heat and I think it really worked.

Jason has one more week before he officially starts his training in regards to his promotion.  He is very excited as this has been a very long drawn out process.

Well, that is a quick update from us.

A Promotion?

For us?  Jason interviewed for a team leader position at his job.  He figured it couldn’t hurt, right?  He has been trying to get on days for the past year.  But there is a waiting list with 2 people in front of him.  It would be nice to be a 8-5 kinda family.  And with this team leader position, it would be two months on night and two months on days.  I guess that beats the alternative of solely nights which we have been doing.

Well, the company dragged their feet for quite some time but announced a couple weeks ago that Jason got the position.  I think this completely surprised Jason.  He was pretty sure that another co-worker would get the job.  But surprise, it was MY husband.  I am so proud of him.

With the team leader promotion obviously came a raise.  But the amount of the raise just blew us away.  We are so blessed and we have no doubt that the Lord’s hand writing is all over this situation.  He knows our deepest needs and desires.  Most often before we even do.

So all the praise and glory goes to God for being our provider as He promised.  And continues to let me stay home with the boy’s.

We have a name

I don’t remember picking a name for Ranen or Micah being this hard. After our ultrasound a month ago and finding out that we are having a girl, we searched some biblical name websites. We didn’t find much that we liked. We are partial to a little different sounding name. But Jason really liked Joeli and I really liked Kaiya.

  • Joeli-meaning Lord is God
  • Kaiya-meaning forgiveness

We let those names sit for about a month. After some “gentle” nudging from some family members we were starting to get antsy to pick a name. So we spend 2 hours on Friday night reading every name in a baby name book we have. Again, we only found a couple more names that we liked. Jason liked Maren and I liked Zarah

  • Maren-(form of Mary) bitter or of the sea
  • Zarah-princess

We let these two new names sit overnight. But when I woke up the next morning, I was still liking Joeli and Kaiya. So finally last night, I couldn’t take it anymore. I was starting to hate the name topic and I just wanted to get this over with. I think the feeling was mutual for Jason as well.

We sat down and looked at our names again. As before, Jason really liked Joeli and I really liked Kaiya. Kaiya was very special to me as God showed me and continues to show me a thing or two about forgiveness. I conveyed this special significance with Jason when I first found the name.

After Jason enjoyed some bantering with me over our two names, we decided on…..

Kaiya Joy

Since we liked Joeli so much, we have already decided that if we have another girl, she already has a name.  And to top it off, I think Kaiya was celebrating with us last night.  Jason got to feel her kick for the first time.  What a special night.

Now that we have the name out of the way, what is a post without pictures?

After a long day of grocery shopping, I needed to lay down on the couch. Ranen just woke up from his nap and we snuggled for a bit. I told him that his baby sister’s name was Kaiya. He knew we were talking about Joeli as well because I asked him on Saturday which he liked better. He told me Kaiya but told Daddy Joeli. That little stinker. Well, here in the picture, he is laughing because he was saying “Joeli Peter” as his sister’s name. What a goob!

This seems to be Micah’s new trick. He will wrap his blanket around his head and bat his beautiful eyes at you.

Unless you get a mid-blink like Jason did. But this picture looks like he is doing more than being charming.

The other day, the boy’s took the drawers out of their toy box and crawled right in.

They are so cute.

And last but not least, Jason did alot of work on the shed during his week vacation last week. The only thing left is the siding, putting the door on, reinforce the floors and building a ramp. The end is in sight. I am so excited. And I know Jason is too.

But let me just say that putting shingles on a roof in 90+ degree weather is no cool task. You could cook an egg up there. But Jason is getting a very nice tan throughout all this hard work. I on the other hand am about back to my normal shade of whiteness after my burn a couple weeks ago. No tan for me.

That’s all folks! I am off to bed now, in anticipation of getting up 4-5 times tonight to go to the bathroom and try and get my numb arms and legs back into working order. There are some parts of pregnancy that I just don’t love.

Knitting up a storm

I have been doing all kinds of knitting for Trace.  I started out with a couple SheepyTime Sleepers.  I had some left over grey wool and decided to make a matching hat but then I started to run out and used some cream wool to help me finish.  I still need to do a little embellishment on these and make the drawstrings.  But this is just the beginning.

Here is a cotton hooded blanket that I am also making.  This one is taking a little more time but I am about half way done.

As tradition follows, my mom crocheted a blanket for Trace.  And it turned out beautifully.

I can’t wait to give it to Trace, that is if Micah doesn’t claim it as his own as he has already tried.

Now on to some pictures of the boy’s.  Micah is all decked out in his Red Sox attire.

This is becoming quite common.  The boy’s actually playing together.  This can melt my heart in a second.

Lookie Krisin, Sit-n-spin

Riding the bike

Sharing lunch

Playing Leapster

Micah is a bit lonely as Ranen has already fallen asleep, so he is left to read books alone.

Another sleeping pose for the list.

I will have to add this to Micah’s list.  He woke up from his nap and snuggled with Daddy and fell back asleep on the couch.

All of this has been brought to you courtesy of my new laptop.  I have such an awesome husband.

My Sister

Whom I am very proud of.  She went to California last weekend for her first Crossfit Games.  She triple tied for 8th place out of 100 women.  She had a great attitude going into the competition.  She just wanted to have fun and try to compete against her own times vs the other competitors.  As you can tell, she did very well and we are so proud of her.

Congratulations Amber!!!

Amber is on the left.

Good Enough??

John Deere and more

We will back up a little bit before we get to all the excitement. Micah has finally decided to wear hats now and what better timing as you will see later. Here he is in his Red Sox hat and shirt.

1

You may have noticed some redness around Micah’s mouth. I guess both the boy’s have very sensitive skin because that redness is caused by strawberry cream cheese. They get it from mustard, cottage cheese, bbq sauce, pasta salad and that is all I can think off the top of my head right now.

Micah has a new fascination with Ranen’s Leapster.

2

And he does pretty well.

3

This is our every day Ranen. Sports, sports and more sports.

4

This was once a rare picture but seems to be more of the norm lately. They have really started playing together and having fun. Micah is not screaming at every little thing which is a much needed break.

5

On Saturday, we got a surprise package from Papa and Nana Rosie.

6

The boy’s got some stamps and a few little Pooh bear books. This is great as Ranen is my child that does not seem to like crafts that much. He doesn’t like to color or draw. But I am excited to try a new craft project with the boy’s. Micah is more of the artistic child.

7

And I guess Papa and Nana Rosie heard thru the grapevine that we have a child that LOVES John Deere.

8

Check out his face!

9

I think they loved their gifts. Thank you Papa and Nana Rosie.

10

Micah says “John Deere” as you will see.

11

Perfect!!!

12

13

This is from yesterday after church. The boy’s watch a little TV as I prepare lunch.

14

After doing my shopping today, I see this picture on the camera. You can tell Daddy was on duty. I guess a little PB&J in the hair works as a great styling gel.

15

And last but not least, I thought this was so cute that I had to include it. This is how much the boy’s love playing with their daddy. Ranen is still learning how to play with his brother without hurting him all the time.
